How many versions of the ATI TEAS are there?

So far, there have been seven versions of the test. The latest change was made on June 3rd, 2022, transitioning from the TEAS 6 to the Teas 7. The change represents a change in blueprint, meaning a change in structure and required subjects.

The blueprint in itself is used to develop multiple versions of the test. This means that two students taking the exam at the same time in the same room could have different questions on the test. Similarly, if you take the test more than once, the chance of receiving the same questions every time is low.

What is the difference between ATI TEAS 6 & ATI TEAS 7?

There are significant differences between TEAS 6 and TEAS 7. TEAS 7 has 20 more questions than TEAS 6, an additional Language and Vocabulary subsection, and is only available in a computer-based format. The TEAS 7 also changed its scoring, placing more weight on the science section than TEAS 6.

How much does the TEAS cost?

You can expect to pay between $65 and $140 to take the TEAS. The price depends on whether you take the test remotely or at an institution/test center. You should also consider the additional cost of materials, practice tests, and study manuals. If you want to apply to institutions other than the one where you took the test, you must pay an additional $27 fee. ATI requires this fee to send your scores to the institutions you choose. Overall, expect the entire TEAS process, including studying, the test itself, and result submissions, to cost you upwards of $500.

Where can I take the TEAS test?

You have multiple options for taking the TEAS. You can take it both online and in person.

  • For the remote options, you can take it proctored by ATI, meaning that ATI will provide you with all the information and resources while also being the ones that proctor your exam.

  • Alternatively, you can take the test online but proctored by an institution. Usually, if they have the option, candidates choose to take the test at the institution they are applying for.

  • You can also take the exam in person at your institution or PSI. You can find testing centers that are convenient for you through the ATI website.

Where can I find in-person testing locations for the TEAS?

To find institutions and PSI testing locations that are convenient for you, you can access the ATI website. Remember that you have the option to check which facilities are available at a given time. To actually schedule a test day, you will have to access the 'Schedule An Exam' page on the ATI website.

When should I take the ATI TEAS test?

The best time to take the TEAS is at the start of your undergrad program, meaning your freshman year of college. Even if you don't plan on applying for nursing school for another few years, remember that the TEAS is complex, and a lot of people do not get their desired score on the first try. It is better to have the option of retaking the exam if you need to, without being pressed for time.

Do I need to attend the school where I take the TEAS test?

You don't need to attend the school where you take your TEAS. Before you decide where to take your test, check the admissions policies of the institution you will be applying to. Some institutions will not accept your test scores if you took the test somewhere else, including ATI or PSI testing centers.

Can I take the TEAS outside of the US?

You can only take the TEAS in the US. The only exception is if you are on active military duty, in which case you can take the TEAS on base. To apply for on-base testing, you need to contact military.testing@ascendlearning.com.

Can I retake the TEAS test?

You can retake the TEAS, both online and in person. Make sure to check your institution's policies to see how many attempts you are allowed since this varies from program to program.

How many times can I take the ATI TEAS test?

The amount of times you are allowed to take the TEAS is set by your institution. Usually, you are allowed 3 attempts per year, but remember to check with your program, as some programs will allow more attempts. Remember that if your TEAS was scored, it counts as an attempt, even if you don't submit the score to your institution.

How soon can I retake the ATI TEAS test?

You can retake the TEAS as soon as your institution allows you. On average, students can retake the test 30 days after their last attempt. However, remember to check your institution's policies since this could vary from program to program. If you take the TEAS at an ATI testing center, the wait period between attempts is 14 days.

Is the TEAS test the same every time?

The TEAS will not be the same every time you take it. Consider that two students taking the test at the same time in the same facility will most likely have different questions on their tests. Similarly, if you attempt the TEAS more than once, the probability of receiving the same test every time is very low.

Will institutions know if I retake my TEAS test?

Institutions will know if and how many times you retake the TEAS. When you submit your score, your institution will also receive a report of your TEAS attempts. Both your score and number of attempts are found on your test transcript.

Does the TEAS test differ online vs. in-person?

Whether you take the TEAS online or in-person, there is no difference in the test itself. The structure, time limits, and subjects will be the same.

Can I reschedule my ATI TEAS test?

Once you set a test day and pay the fees, you can't reschedule your TEAS. You are only allowed to reschedule in case of a documented emergency.

If you choose to take the TEAS at a PSI testing center, you can reschedule your test day as long as you do so at least 48 hours before your exam. You can reschedule through your ATI account or by phone.

What do I do if I miss my TEAS test because of an emergency?

If you miss your TEAS because of an emergency, make sure you have proof of the emergency. Emergencies that will allow you to reschedule your test day include medical issues, death in the family, or any other urgent matters.

You will need some form of documentation that proves the emergency. If you have the proof, you will need to send it to proctor@atitesting.com if you are taking your test through ATI. If you are taking it through an institution, you need to send it to comments@atitesting.com

How many times is the TEAS test offered per year?

There is no set amount of times the test is offered per year. Many institutions offer the TEAS, as well as ATI and PSI testing centers, so remember to check their availability in your area. However, there are limitations on how many times a student can take the test within 12 months, depending on the institutions you apply to.

Is the TEAS harder than the SAT?

Overall, the TEAS is not harder than the SAT. The goal of both tests is the same: to assess students' academic readiness. The main difference is that TEAS is made specifically for future nursing students, so the material will be more specific to healthcare.

Is the TEAS 7 harder than the TEAS 6?

The TEAS 7 is not designed to be more complex than the TEAS 6. The tests are equated, which, in practical terms, means that a student who scored 80% on TEAS 6 would also score 80% on TEAS 7 as long they put the same amount of time and effort into preparing for the test.

While there are differences between the versions, any changes that were made have the goal of updating the assessment, not making it more difficult.

Why is ATI TEAS changing?

The TEAS test is upgraded to keep the assessment relevant. The standards and requirements for healthcare workers evolve and change over time, and the changes made from one version of TEAS to the other are meant to reflect that.

What is the difference between TEAS and ATI TEAS?

There is no difference, as TEAS and ATI TEAS are the same test. TEAS stands for Test of Essential Academic Skills, and ATI (Assessment Technologies Institute) is the name of the company that makes and provides the test.
